You’d never expect in your longest day to find this beautiful Victorian village nestled almost all alone in the grandeur of the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. The whole town is on the National Register of Historic Places and it has been named one of Americas Distinctive Places by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
All this is to say that Eureka Springs is one of this countries special little places. It is a destination not to be left out of your life. If it is true that we only go around once make sure it’s on your list. It is especially famous for its quaint and elegant Victorian homes that are sprinkled throughout the city. They seem to merge into the equally colorful little roads that lead you to them.
All of its wonder grew out of the springs for which it is named. Native American Indians left stories of their healing power. When the Europeans came to the area with their Victorian homes they claimed that the springs had “magic healing power”. The great temperance leader, Carrie Nation, must have loved the water too. She spent the last years of her life in Eureka Springs.
