Santa Catalina is the full name of this magnificent island 22 miles off the coast of southern California. A one hour boat ride will get you there or if you’re in a hurry it’s 15 minutes by helicopter. You’ll step ashore in the delightful little town of Avalon. You won’t believe so much history, beauty and fun can be found on one little dot in the pacific ocean. Fish in the clear blue ocean waters, take a ride in a glass bottom boat and watch the underwater world below, get closer yet in a submersible boat, go para sailing, ocean rafting, kayaking, scuba diving, snorkeling and swimming.
Back on land visit the Island’s landmark, the historic Casino building where the big bands reigned and sense the romance of the era. Have a look at novelist Zane Grey’s home, now a hotel. The Wrigley Mansion, now a 4 star bed and breakfast is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Cars are limited so bike, hike or even drive a golf cart to explore the hills above Avalon. And don’t forget to get back into the undeveloped wildlands of the interior of the Island to see the island Buffalo. Of course, fine dining unique shops, spas, zip lining and the beach in Avalon and…well, there’s so much more.
